GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Guntersville man lost control of his trailer and didn’t notice, according to police.

The man was traveling outbound on Hwy. 227 when his trailer, carrying a boat, became unhooked from his truck. The trailer crossed two lanes of traffic and knocked down a railroad crossing sign before continuing approximately 100 yards down the railroad tracks.

The trailer and the boat have since been removed from the tracks.

Authorities say the driver didn’t realize that he had lost the trailer until he was on the other side of the mountain, which they say stresses the importance of safety chain use when towing a trailer.
