Dear Executive Leadership Of The American Red Cross:

Allow me to be perfectly clear and speak rather frankly.

Your total lack of inventory control of valuable donations of trailers and equipment inside of trailers is simply stunning.  Time and time again our organization has repeatedly contacted local Red Cross Chapters that had their trailers stolen.

You ask us to go up the chain of command but the chain of command is failing and now you leave us no choice but be the only organization who is going to call attention to this growing issue.

The issue is Stolen Trailers and your lack of installing GPS trackers with vin numbers that are at the same location across all trailers to quickly and easily identify them.  We are going to expose and demand attention when the American Red Cross across all chapters are letting trailer theft go unchecked and even have them in rivers.

In closing we have included our links and our efforts to prevent your trailers and equipment from being stolen and our un-funded efforts to prevent your trailers from being stolen in the first place.

We have used our credit cards and lines of credit to keep our organization going trying to prevent over 1,500 trailers from being stolen weekly across the United States & Canada!

You leave us no choice because your organization has never returned our calls.

Sincerely In Stolen Trailers,

Ron J. Melancon

And now we expose the American Red Cross and their leadership for doing nothing to prevent trailer theft.   2  in one week that we know of...they hide the truth of how many they have lost.  Do you see a pattern?

The following is a e mail correspondence that we have received

Notice how at first the person responding thought we didn't have our facts and I use this quote:

Dear Ron, Thank you for contacting the American Red Cross. Your previous phone call was routed to our Fleet Management for review, as will your comments.  In my 2 decades with Red Cross, this is the first time I have heard of 'stolen RC trailers', so let's keep this in perspective.

Dear Ron,

Thank you for contacting the American Red Cross. Your previous phone call was routed to our Fleet Management for review, as will your comments.  In my 2 decades with Red Cross, this is the first time I have heard of 'stolen RC trailers', so let's keep this in perspective.  Additionally, if something is stolen, the fault lies with the thief, not with those whose property was stolen.
Every day, more than 30,000 people receive assistance from the American Red Cross—that’s about 1,300 people helped every hour of the day.

Sincerely,
American Red Cross Public Inquiry

Dear Ron,
Our Fleet Management team and the local chapter are reviewing the issue.  Rest assured, we take our stewardship of donated funds very seriously and do our best to protect our resources.
An average of 90 cents of every dollar the American Red Cross spends is invested in delivering care and comfort to those in need.
Have a nice evening.
Sincerely,
American Red Cross Public Inquiry

Dear Mr Melancon,
There appears to be a misunderstanding. As indicated previously, our Fleet Management team is reviewing your concerns. No "proof" or further information is needed.  I was simply indicating that I  -  not the Red Cross organization -- had not received any inquiries regarding "stolen trailers" in my 2 decades with Red Cross.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
American Red Cross Public Inquiry

American Red Cross disaster trailer stolen in Cooke Co.

GAINESVILLE, TX - The American Red Cross is asking for your help to find their disaster relief trailer that was stolen sometime over the weekend.

The trailer, which looks similar to this one at the Denison office seen in the video clip, was taken from the parking lot of the Whaley Methodist Church in Gainesville.

Sharon Watson, director of the Texoma Chapter of the American Red Cross, says the 16 foot white cargo trailer was full of cots and blankets and is used when they open shelters during disasters. Watson says the trailer was stolen between Thursday and Sunday.

"This trailer, the funds for it were raised by the people of Cooke County and so it's just a double whammy to have it stolen from us and from the people of Cooke County," Watson says.

The trailer has Texas disaster plates 16D523. If you have any information you're urged to call Gainesville Police.

Company offers to replace stolen Red Cross trailerApril 5, 2012 at 8:55 PM CDT - Updated June 26 at 9:40 PM

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - After hearing about the disaster trailer being stolen from the American Red Cross, a company has said it will donate $2,200 to replace the stolen trailer. Racon Inc., a Tuscaloosa-based road construction company, contacted the American Red Cross Thursday morning and offered them the donation.

"You [Red Cross] helped so much after the storms that we want to help you," Chet Cowsar of Racon told the Red Cross.

The trailer was taken sometime during the weekend from the American Red Cross office in Birmingham, located at 114 22nd Street South.

The trailer, valued at $2,200, was unmarked and waiting for graphics to be added. It was one of nine new trailers purchased by the Red Cross to hold disaster supplies and shelter equipment during tornado and hurricane season.

"The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for this generous donation and act of kindness following what originated as a great loss to the nonprofit organization," the Red Cross said in a statement.

Birmingham police are investigating the theft.

A Red Cross Disaster Relief trailer in Murfreesboro has been stolen. The trailer was taken from an MTSU parking lot this past September and police only know that the culprit drove away in a Dodge Truck..

After the dark colored truck hooked up to the trailer, the subject drove away from the MTSU Boulevard parking lot. A video surveillance shot shows that the four door Dodge truck had a spare tire on the rear driver's side.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-893-7867 (STOP). There is a $1,000 award being offered.
