OLTON, Texas (KCBD) - Plainview Fire and EMS Department were called to a major crash after 3 p.m east of the intersection of West US Highway 70 and Sun Road, one mile west of Plainview, in which two people were killed.

Police in Olton told The Olton Enterprise the two people killed in Monday’s wreck near Plainview were Eduardo and Rosalba Dorantes. A third passenger in the vehicle was identified as 18-year-old Mary Dorantes.

Two fire engines, two EMS units and three command vehicles responded from the fire department. Once on scene PFD personnel found one vehicle with three passengers trapped; the jaws of life were used to take the three people out of the vehicle.

An initial investigation by the Department of Public Safety found a 2004 Dodge Ram was hauling a Bobcat Tractor while traveling east on U.S. 70, as the Dorantes’ were traveling in the opposite direction. The trailer detached from the Dodge, drifting into the lane the Dorantes’ were driving and hit them head-on.

DPS cites a mechanical issues as the reason the trailer became detached.

Mary Dorantes is currently recovering at University Medical Center with incapacitating injuries and the driver of the Dodge was not injured.

This crash remains under investigation.

A GoFundMe account has been established for the Dorantes family.
