MIAMI – A one-year-old Miami child, Braxton Herring, was struck and killed by a trailer last Friday at 1:07 p.m. in Miami in a tragic event.

According to Miami Police Department Investigating Officer Sgt. Jason Arnold’s report, the child was on or near the curb of a residence at 613 M NW Street in Miami. A 1995 Red Ford F350 Dually truck, driven by Travis C. Wilbur, 27, of Miami, towing a homemade 16-foot car hauler loaded with vehicles was parked facing north in the southbound lane in front of the home.

Wilbur was speaking with the child’s mother, Britany Landis, while her three children were playing near the trailer.

“At the end of the conversation, Landis called for the children to get away from the trailer. As Wilbur began to pull away, she was trying to keep an eye on two of her three children and turned her head for a split second,” Arnold writes in the report. “As Wilbur drove away, the trailer jumped up on the curb and struck and ran over Braxton with the driver side tires of the trailer.”

Landis yelled at the driver but told police she did not believe he heard her yelling, according to the report.

Landis called 911, and the Miami Police Department, Miami Fire Department, and Integris EMS Ambulance responded to the scene.

The child was transported to Miami Integris Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Wilbur was unaware his vehicle had struck the child, according to police. Officers located Wilbur and his truck and trailer and gathered information for the report.

The MPD report indicates the weather was cloudy and roadway level and dry.
