Trailer Safety Is A Must
Recently, a letter to the editor was published titled “Trailer safety is being ignored on our roads” (The Daily News, Oct. 8).
Our
organization, Dangeroustrailers.org, couldn’t agree more. Our roadways
have become even more dangerous due to this unchecked industry.
Regulations
aren’t in place for any utility trailer just 1 pound under 3,000 Gross
Vehicle Weight Rating. There isn’t any training, no inspections and a
trailer can even be built by you.
Our organization has been
trying to address this ongoing concern for almost seven years. I urge
Daily News readers to go to dangeroustrail
ers.org, and the next
time they’re out and about, to take notice of the countless number of
trailers being hauled daily on our roadways.
If they look
closely, they’ll see many are improperly attached to the tow vehicle,
don’t have working lights, safety chains and are unacceptably
maintained.
They should then ask themselves: “Why am I riding behind or next to this person trying to kill or injure my family and me?”

Trailer Safety Is Being Ignored On Our Roads
During my daily travels, I have noticed an increase in trailers on the roads. I also have noticed that many of them are unsafe.
There should be a law requiring trailers to be inspected annually, as there is for our automobiles.
I have seen unsafe items such as nonworking lights, bad tires, unused or absent safety chains and unsecured loads.
Also,
if it is obvious that these trailers are used for business and
commercial use, they should be registered as commercial trailers.
Some I have seen numerous times with the same safety violations.
Are the law enforcement agencies just turning their heads or not seeing the same violations I see?
